Art 11. Homework #2

In today’s society we have many Greek art influences in architecture. We have adopted many of the ancient world traditions that help us better our modern world. We have adopted many of the ancient cultures, for example their development in art, like portrait meaning we use their  way of describing or drawing  things such as a person picture.

I believe that the ancient Greek world has inspired us today in many different ways. A great example of this is in the video that we saw in class about the Egyptian art. In the video they showed how their inventions allowed them, and now us, to carry heavy objects from one place to another. The video also showed how to build the structure more easily because they used to work in gangs to build buildings but now we have developed new technology that is more advanced and allows us to work separately with the use of a machine.

In the video called the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World” that me and my classmate’s watched in class we were able to observe that art lovers can now appreciate the freedom that women have. An example of this was the sister of the king who became a queen after his death. His sister symbolized the fertility of a woman and the canon, meaning the rules in today’s world give women more opportunities allowing them to be part of society and teaching people that women can also be powerful.

I noticed that in the video, the process that the ancient Greeks used is very useful for us in today’s modern world because the way they used   maps to construct buildings back in the day  ,results in how  we can use maps to build our plans and to reach our destination. The thermometer helps us understand the pressure of air and how to distinguish different temperatures.

 The ancient Greeks were and still are art influences to our society today. We are now better educated people with more opportunities to keep developing great ideas on how to make our construction and architecture more beneficial and easier. I am glad that I am part of the modern world and that I am able to have the facility to construct.

Homework #1

            Art is to me like a way of expressing yourself, meaning your way of being, emotions and creativity and criticism is to me a way of judge our good and bad qualities.

This is my first time taking an art class in college, I do agree with the author of Seeing Out Loud article by Saltz. There is a quote in the article that said “Art is a way of thinking a way of knowing yourself “. I believe is true because I feel that if I learn how to create art, I will be able to create what is inside me, meaning how I feel about something and is also easier to express yourself through art instead of communication through other individuals.

Art for me is music I believe that musician express their art through their lyric, voices and rhythm. The differences between Saltz art and my prefer art is that my art is more auditory and Saltz art is more visual. The similarity is that we both have a common goal to reach emotion through our art. I love the experience of listening to the art of music is like to find another way to relax my mind. I felt an inner peace that grabs me feel joy in my soul.

There is also another quote in the article by the author Jerry Saltz that said “Having an eye in criticism is as important as having an ear in music”. I agree with this quote because being able to see or listening to something is having an understanding and interpretation of it. I believe criticism could be good and bad. It could be good because it can help you better your creativity but it could also be bad because it could affect your motive in life.

Overall I believe that art reaches us in many ways that can have an impact in our life good or bad depending on the individual’s acceptance. This article has tough me how to be a better critic when it comes to understanding art.
